Haier defines new global freshness standard with launch of Horizon Collection in London

Beyond What You See: Flagship refrigerator combines boundless capacity, four-dimensional professional preservation, and AI-powered food management in Obsidian Steel design

LONDON — Haier has introduced the Haier Horizon Collection, a flagship refrigerator built around a compelling promise: Beyond What You See. This innovative appliance combines an impressive 700 litres of storage capacity with cutting-edge preservation technologies and an intelligent AI-powered food management system that quietly works to keep ingredients fresher for longer.

As the world’s leading refrigeration specialist — ranked No. 1 in refrigeration appliances by sales volume for 18 consecutive years, according to Euromonitor International — Haier delivers this premium experience to households across more than 200 countries and regions.

Beyond Space: 700 litres Boundless Capacity

With 700 litres of interior capacity — the largest in its class within a similar footprint to competing models — the Horizon Collection easily handles the weekly shop for a family of five or more. Picture fitting the equivalent of 38 grocery bags or the haul from seven large shopping carts, including room for bulk buys and weekend entertaining. Thanks to advanced foaming and a compact compressor design, this generous space comes without bulking up the exterior, while maintaining a C/D energy class rating.

The thoughtful layout adapts to how families actually use a fridge: cantilever shelves adjust independently even when full, deep 180 mm door bins hold 2L bottles upright, and dedicated precision zones offer tailored storage for cheese, meat, seafood, frozen essentials, and ready meals — each with individual temperature controls.

Beyond Time: 4-D Professional Preservation

At the core of the Horizon Collection is a four-dimensional preservation system designed to address the main causes of food spoilage: temperature, humidity, sterilisation, and magnetic technology.

Air Surround distributes lateral airflow gently throughout the interior, minimising food moisture loss and maintaining stable temperatures with less fluctuation than conventional systems.

Active Fresh Zone uses an advanced plant fibre membrane filtration system to maintain a consistent 90% humidity level, preserving the freshness, crispness, and nutrients of fruits and vegetables for up to twice as long as conventional storage — performance independently verified by VDE Germany testing.

ABT PRO uses advanced sterilisation technology inside the air circulation system. Testing by the Guangzhou Testing Center of Industrial Microbiology (Report No. WJ201820937) confirms up to 99.99% elimination of bacteria, with no cross-contamination between compartments.

Nutri Bank applies magnetic-controlled preservation technology in a dedicated drawer with three adjustable levels for cheese (4°C), seafood (0°C), and chilled meat (-3°C). VDE Germany testing (www.VDEinfo.com, ID 40059956 and ID.40058948) confirms 95% protein retention after 10 days in meat mode, with freshness extended up to five times longer than conventional storage.

In everyday terms, this means your weekend meal prep stays vibrant mid-week, fresh berries last through family breakfasts, and premium cuts of meat remain tender and nutritious for special dinners.

Beyond Intelligence: AI Food Care System

The Smart Window interface turns the refrigerator door transparent on approach, revealing contents without opening. Beyond what you see, the AI Food Care System identifies ingredients, tracks storage periods, sends expiration reminders, and recommends recipes based on available contents, helping households reduce unnecessary waste and better plan meals based on what they already have. Wake-word-free voice control enables hands-free door operation without trigger phrases.

The customised dashboard provides flexible layout options for browsing multimedia, e-commerce, and food management tools. The PureSpace ice maker is engineered as a fully independent, door-integrated module with its own dedicated cooling circuit — distinct from the main refrigerator and freezer systems — ensuring flavour-pure ice free from any cross-contamination or odour transfer. Features include ice boosting, ready-to-drink timer, and scheduled ice-making.

Refined Design

The Obsidian Steel finish reads as furniture rather than appliance. A breathing light pulses gently to guide users to the handle in low light, activating on approach and switchable via the hOn app. The seamless one-piece U-shaped handle ensures easy cleaning with rounded corners. Inside, transparent, well-organised compartments allow instant visibility of all items.

International Standard Alignment

Haier helped develop and later upgrade IEC 63169, an international food-preservation standard for household cooling and freezing appliances. The Horizon Collection is the world’s first refrigerator launched in full alignment with this standard. The current British adoption, BS EN IEC 63169:2020+A1:2025, was published in January 2025 and has been adopted across more than 30 countries including the UK and EU.

Sustainability Context

UNEP’s Food Waste Index states households generated 631 million tonnes of food waste in 2022, equal to 60% of the global total. The Horizon’s four-dimensional preservation system — doubling fresh produce life, retaining 95% protein across ten days of meat storage, and eliminating 99% of bacterial spoilage — positions better refrigeration as a practical household solution to a trillion-dollar global problem.

Launch Event

The refrigerator was introduced on 18th March at Queen’s House and Royal Observatory, Greenwich — the internationally recognised home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian Line. The event was attended by former England international footballer Glen Johnson, along with representatives from anti-food-waste charities The Felix Project and FareShare. Haier also announced the donation of 20 freezers to its charity partners, supporting the storage and distribution of surplus food.

“Haier aims to bring smart home solutions for healthier, more convenient and sustainable living across Europe,” said Wu Yong, Vice President of Haier Group and General Manager of Haier Cooling & Cooking Appliances. “We will continue to innovate and strive to become the leading brand for smart living worldwide.”

That ambition took a significant step forward yesterday at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, where Neil Tunstall, CEO of Haier Europe, announced: “In the iconic setting of the Royal Observatory Greenwich, we unveiled the Horizon Collection – a breakthrough refrigerator range that moves beyond traditional refrigeration and redefines how we preserve food for modern living. In the same spirit, Horizon represents our ‘zero point’, a new benchmark in food preservation, designed to slow the effects of time and protect what matters most: taste, texture, and nutritional value. This collection reflects our commitment to combining science, proprietary technology and design to elevate everyday life in the kitchen.”
