Congressman Johnson pushes for AI growth in US

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KLFY) — U.S. Congressman Mike Johnson and other governmental officials met with technology leaders at the Hill and Valley Forum this week. The discussion included the growing urgency for the United States to lead in artificial intelligence development.

Speaker Johnson emphasized how the conversation around AI has rapidly shifted in just a few years, from early exploration to building the foundation of widespread use across the country.

Officials credited the administration of Donald Trump for pushing artificial intelligence to the forefront of national policy, calling it a critical priority comparable to the Space Race.

Leaders in Congress say their focus is on limiting regulation while encouraging innovation, investing in energy resources needed to power AI infrastructure, and ensuring new technology strengthens national defense.

“Second thing that Congress needs to do, I believe it’s our duty to ensure our national security and wellbeing. And we know it’s possible to expand the American AI stack to friends and allies, while also ensuring it stays out of the hands of America’s adversaries and rivals,” Johnson said.

They also urged private companies to invest in American workers and keep production, data centers, and supply chains based in the U.S., warning against reliance on foreign competitors.

Lawmakers say a unified national framework for AI is key to protecting consumers while maintaining the country’s competitive edge.

Johnson wants Government and industry to work together to secure America’s leadership in AI and shape what officials call the next era of economic and technological growth.
