International company donates $1.5 million to Connecticut Foodshare to fight hunger locally

An international business with a major local footprint has donated $1.5 million to Connecticut Foodshare to help battle hunger throughout the state.

The state’s leading food bank announced its partnership on Tuesday with ASML, the world’s sole creator of extreme ultraviolet lithography machines, which are essential for producing advanced semiconductor chips.

ASML has a hub in Wilton that employs more than 1,600 people. It’s ASML’s largest R&D and manufacturing site in the United States.

The team at ASML Wilton is responsible for the donation that has been announced.

According to a release from Connecticut Foodshare, the money will help with its food acquisition efforts, program sponsorships and technology investments. These enhance the nonprofit’s ability to meet the needs of people throughout the region battling food insecurity.

Jason Jukubowski, president and CEO of Connecticut Foodshare, said strong collaboration is key to addressing hunger locally. He expressed gratitude to ASML for its generosity.

“ASML’s historic commitment will help ensure that our neighbors across Connecticut have reliable access to nutritious food while also strengthening the programs and systems that make our work possible,” Jakubowski said.

ASML Wilton Program Manager of Society & Community Engagement Brian Amero said the company is excited to partner with the nonprofit to make a difference.

Connecticut Foodshare reports that more than 516,000 people – or one in seven people – in the state are food insecure.

The nonprofit distributes food to more than 480 agencies, including food pantries, community kitchens, shelters and over 100 mobile food pantry locations.
